Zebra DS2208 and a lot of other Zebra barcode readers can be switched to Virtual Serial Port by scanning a dedicated barcode.  For any unlisted device consult if your Zebra device User's Guide lists USB CDC Host option. On the Zebra page, there are additional drivers and guidelines.

Simple two-steps procedure

1. Scan code that is resetting to factory defaults.
   
   
2. Scan CDC (Virtual Serial Port)
   
   

We have tested: Zebra DS2208 on both Windows 10 and Apple macOS computers.

Zebra documentation lists more readers that should be able to use Virtual Serial Port  (CDC). Based on manufacturer declaration you should use the same procedure for other Zebra readers.
